Professional Head of Safety

The purpose of this role is to lead the Safety Department, to pro-actively drive forward ISS Labours safety culture and to achieve continuous improvement in safety performance for the business.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Advise the Company on specific industry standard health & safety and legislative issues
  • Driving forward company safety and occupational health initiatives
  • Developing a higher level of safety maturity
  • Review of new and changes to Network Rail Company and Railway Group standards and relevant legislation
  • Implementation of requirements arising from new and changed Network Rail Company and
  • Railway Group Standards and relevant legislation
  • Preparing and presenting Safety statistics to the Directors
  • To ensure that all accidents are investigated and that recommendations are implemented company wide
  • Attendance at RISQS, IMS and Client Audits
  • Ensure completion of external safety audits / risk assessments
  • Review, maintain and update company Safety policy documentation
  • Specify and maintain a system for collating, analyzing, disseminating company accidents statistics and trends
  • Monitoring the achievement of Safety KPI’s


  • To comply with ISS Labours Health &Safety, and Quality Policies
  • Advise the Managing Director, on company and personal responsibility for Health & Safety
  • Advise and inform all individuals on matters of Health & Safety and accident prevention
  • Identify and advise on Health & Safety training needs
  • Investigate and report on all incidents impinging on Health & Safety matters
  • Monitor Safety performance and advise on improvements and / or change
  • Evaluate applications from Contractors to Approved Supplier Register with regard to Health & Safety competency
  • Advise on formulation of method statements, safe systems of work, specific risk and COSHH assessments, and ensure all relevant parties are briefed on the contents of said documents
  • Ensure adequate fire prevention measures are in place
