We were very proud to be sponsors of the annual IRail STEM event that took place on 5th March at the Derby Conference Centre.
Elaine Clark Chief Executive officer of Rail Forum Midlands said “I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your support today and for making it such a success for the schools. The pupils clearly really enjoyed their day, I happened to eavesdrop on a short interview that the organisers Learning By Design were doing with one of the school groups and they were very positive about the whole experience and the fact it had opened their eyes to the industry and the range of opportunities. Derby College has already been in touch with some really positive feedback from the students who popped across also. In fact they said they would have liked longer!”
We were delighted to be asked to be on the judging panel for the final round of the school’s “Lift That Box” technical challenge which required them to design and build a piece of equipment to lift a container off a freight train.
Andy Kitchen, Operations Manager said “The final judging was very difficult, both of the finalist teams had put in a great deal of thought and effort into their designs and their solutions were quite imaginative, the decision for choosing the winning school Allestree Woodlands School, was based on their excellent demonstration of team working”. We look forward to supporting further Learning by Design events in the future.
